Ganapate Yana Maha!

This begins my foray into the 21st century. For the longest time, I have heard about blogging - now I join the fray. In Hindu tradition, I begin by praying to Lord Ganesh. This year, Ganesh Chaturthi fell on September 3rd, 2008. In spite of wanting to pray and set aside a few hours in the evening for pooja and prasad, this week got busy. However, it was nice that my sister-in-law Carole joined us from the Philippines.

Let me start by praying to Ganesh for peace and health for everyone. The famous Dagadushet Halwai Mandir from my birthplace, Pune, Maharashtra, India is given above. Here is a short poem illustrating a dialog between me and Lord Ganesh.

आज सकाळी म्हणत होता बाप्पा

प्रार्थना करताना देखिल का मारतोस गप्पा

वेळ नाही वेळ नाही असे म्हणत सारखा टीवी बघतोस?

माझे बोलावने आइकून सुद्धा दूर राहतोस?

तुझे विचार माला ठावूक आहेत

माझी उत्तरे ही तय्यार आहेत

ये बस शेजारी, करू नकोस वाद

आइक्शील तर होइल तुझा माझा संवाद

सांगतो आजच सगळे, परत कधी भेटशील?

प्रपंचाच्या नावा खाली, दूर दूर राहशील

मीच तुझा पिता, मीच माता, मीच कैवारी

मीच दासी, मीच सखा, आणि मीच आधारी
